Sara Bareilles says she’s “feeling pretty great about things” — as well she should. The singer, songwriter and pianist from Eureka, Calif., has a gold debut album, “Little Voice,” as well as a No. 1 single, “Love Song.” A second track from the album, “Bottle it Up,” is climbing the charts, and after opening for a slew of other acts — most recently Maroon 5 and Counting Crows — Bareilles is taking her own show on the road as a headliner.

“It’s pretty satisfying to get to the point where we’re playing our own shows,” notes Bareilles, 28, a UCLA graduate who spent nearly two years recording “Little Voice” with producer Eric Rosse (Tori Amos).

“When you spend your time and your energy on something you love and you’re passionate about, of course you hope it’s going to be successful. But this whole experience has been one, big, pleasant surprise. I don’t think that I was really envisioning it taking us around the world like it has. It’s been unbelievable.”

Bareilles is thinking “all the time” about her next album, but “Little Voice” is still making a loud impact. A third single, “Gravity” — the oldest song on the album — is scheduled for 2009, and Bareilles has a batch of other touring opportunities to wade through before she’ll hunker down in a recording studio again.

“When you first get into the ‘game,’ you’re working really hard just to kind of establish any sort of foundation for yourself,” says Bareilles, who’s playing a couple of new songs — including “Little Voice,” which did not make it onto the album that bears its name — in her shows. “That’s kind of where we’re at right now. We’re busting our butts on the road, trying to get everywhere.

“But it’s not a woe-is-me story,” she adds. “It’s an awesome job to have, but it is a lot of hard work. It’d be nice at some point to get to a place where you can relax a little bit.”

Sara Bareilles, Marc Broussard and Raining Jane perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 30) at the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward Ave. Tickets are $22.50. Call (313) 961-5450 or visit www.livenation.com.
