Eddie Money says his autobiographical musical, “Two Tickets to Paradise,” was “a lot more fun when it was a hobby. Now it’s a job.”

The good news is that means it’s close to being finished.

“Two Tickets ...” is, in fact, slated to open in early June on Long Island. Built around Money’s three-decade body of hits as well as several new songs, it’s “my story,” according to the singer, a former police officer born Eddie Mahoney.

“It’s 1968 when I quit the police department and left for California and got a record deal and had a drug overdose and all of that stuff,” says Money, 59. “It’s rock ‘n’ roll, drugs ... I guess there’s a little bit of sex, kind of. It’s like ‘Jersey Boys,’ y’know?”

He calls the many bosses involved in the production “a headache,” but he’s answering to some other bosses — his fans — with his regular concerts, too. After hearing complaints about songs he wasn’t playing, Money decided to use his Web site and let people vote for what they wanted to hear.

And, Money confirms, he’s honoring their choices.

“ ‘Two Tickets ...’ is my bread-andbutter tune, so now I open the set with that,” says Money, who will also play his traditional early-season show in May at the DTE Energy Music Theatre. “But (the fans) want to hear ‘Take a Little Bit.’ We do ‘Trinidad,’ which they love. They wanted to hear ‘Walk on Water’ and wanted to hear it later in the set, so I had to separate it from ‘Gimme Some Water.’

“They do have fan favorites. I mean, I did have 26 songs in the (Billboard) top 100, but there’s a lot of other stuff they like, too, so I’m listening, babe. I’m listening.”

Eddie Money performs at 8 p.m. Friday (Feb. 20) at Andiamo Celebrity Showroom, 7096 E. 14 Mile Road, Warren. Tickets are $25, $40 and $65 Call (586) 258-3200 or visit www.andiamoshowroom.com.
