Interview:
Miranda Lamber Juggling New Album, Old Success
Miranda Lambert is living a bit of a dual life these days.
She’s busy working on her next album, which she hopes to release in September, but she’s also still actively promoting 2007’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country charts, has been certified gold and was the Academy of Country Music’s Album of the Year.
“It is a little weird, but it’s so fun,” Lambert, 25, says of juggling both projects. “ ‘Crazy Ex’ is still relatively new to me, but I’m also so ready to have another record out.
“We’ve been playing these songs live for two-and-a-half years now; we love ‘em, but we’re also totally ready to get some new stuff and just break it up as far as our set list goes and not have to do the same songs we’ve been doing forever.”
Lambert, who’s currently dating fellow country artist Blake Shelton, says the best part about her success is the “awesome opportunities” it’s given her — including touring with the likes of Keith Urban, Toby Keith and George Strait. And this summer she’ll be the main support act for Kenny Chesney’s Sun City Carnival Tour, which plays Detroit on Aug. 22.
“I’ve been spoiled, in a way, because I’ve gotten to learn from the greats of the business,” Lambert says, “and now Kenny’s kind of like icing on the cake.”
Miranda Lambert performs at 9 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 28) at the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor, 377 Riverside Drive East, Windsor. Tickets $41.50 and $32.29. Call (800) 991-7777 or visit www.caesarswindsor.com.
