VNV Nation frontman Ronan Harris says the group’s unique “alternative electronic rock” sound moves him so much that it hurts sometimes.

Literally.

Harris, 42, recently tore a tendon in his leg while executing a pivot move on stage in Seattle. “I started zipping all over the stage, starting and stopping like I usually do,” he recalls. “I got to the edge of the stage and turned and it felt like someone had just shot me in the leg. It’s like a basketball injury. Tennis players have it, too.

“It was excruciating pain, but we’re not the kind of band to stop because of something like that. I went to a doctor in Seattle and he gave me a knee brace and some ibuprofen in case it swelled up. Fortunately, it’s healed rapidly, and I’ve still managed to be just as fast on stage, so I’ve got some blessed metabolism or something.”

The British-formed VNV Nation is back in the U.S. promoting its seventh studio album, “Of Faith, Power and Glory,” which came out June 23, and Harris says he’s particularly looking forward to playing in Detroit, where he says the group has “developed great friends, real friendships that we’ve had for years.”

“I know people are going through their hardships there,” Harris says, “and Michigan is a state I love very much. I did an entire state tour once just ’cause I wanted to see it. I got to just below Sault St. Marie over to Iron Mountain, up one side, down the other and through the center.

“I know a lot of people are experiencing personal hardships there, and I hope we can bring some kind of sense of hope and inspiration. If nothing else, to get up there and see people smile for an hour-and-a-half while we play will be a wonderful thing.”
