Itís a special year for Travis Tritt ó the 20th anniversary of his first hit single, the title track of his debut album ďCountry Club,Ē and of his membership in country musicís famed Class of í89, which also included luminaries such as Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill and Clint Black.

ďI think we came out at a good time,Ē says Georgia-born Tritt, 46, ďat a time and as part of a group of people that really helped to make a difference and make a wave in the country music business that maybe it hadnít seen in quite some time.

ďThe fact that I was able to be a part of that class with all those guys, I just pinch myself from time to time, when I look back. Itís been quite a ride.Ē

The ride has continued for Tritt through 10 studio albums (six of them platinum or better) and 18 Top 10 country singles. His last album, 2007ís ďThe Storm,Ē blew over when the record company went out of business (leading to a lawsuit by Tritt), but that hasnít dampened his spirit for making new music and still playing his old hits for the fans heís accrued during the past two decades.

ďI take a lot of comfort in the fact that labels will come and labels will go, and the people you deal with will come and go,Ē Tritt explains. ďThe fact is, I havenít forgotten how to sing, how to write, how to entertain people. Until I do forget to do that, my world is pretty good.

ďIíve got a really good, established fan base, a good group of people who, if they know Iím doing anything musically, whether itís a live show or an album or a television special ... they show up. Iím lucky, and I donít take that for granted.Ē

Travis Tritt and Randy Houser perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 1) at the DTE Energy Music Theatre, Sashabaw Road east of I-75, Independence Township. Tickets are $25 and $35 pavilion, $15 lawn with a $44 lawn four-pack. Call (313) 377-0100 or visit www.palacenet.com.
