The Donnas titled their latest album “Greatest Hits Volume 16,” a tribute to the all-female Palo Alto, Calif., rock band’s 16 years together — a long run for a group that’s survived both the independent and major label record company ranks.

“We started the band when we were friends, like best friends,” explains bassist Maya Ford, noting that The Donnas formed when its members were in eighth grade. “We’ve always respected each other and trusted each other and had fun together. We all like the same movies.

“And we were kind of all growing up together, in school and then out on the road. So it’s kind of like a family. I feel like I know my band better than my real family at times.”

For the record, the last Donnas group movie was “The Hangover” — during which Ford, 30, took heat for having her cell phone go off in the theater.

The Donnas’ latest tour finds the group on the road with its forebears — Pat Benatar and Debbie Harry of Blondie, which Ford says has been a pleasure for her group.

“It’s exciting to watch these two amazing women who have influenced us and everyone,” Ford says. “Pat’s really nice; her husband, Spider (Neil Giraldo) really wants to go golfing with us; we don’t play, but he’s funny, so we might go.

“I’ve always liked Pat Benatar. I made a shirt exactly like the one she wore in the video for ‘Love is a Battlefield,’ just a lavender shirt with a ripped-off collar wrapped around the neck and Chinese writing on it. I wore it forever, and now we’re on tour with her, which is cool.”

The Donnas perform with Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo at 7:30 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 16) at SoundBoard in the Motor City Casino, 2901 Grand River Ave., Detroit. Tickets are $40.50, $52.50 and $55.50. Call (313) 237-7711 or visit www.motorcitycasino.com.
