Devon Allman released his band Honeytribe’s debut album, “Torch,” in 2006. Fans tell him it’s time to get another one out there.

And Allman — whose father is Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band — agrees.

“I’m really excited; the band has done over 1,000 shows since ‘Torch’ came out, which is a lot over three-and-a-half years,” says Allman, 34, who plans to start recording “Space Age Blues” on Jan. 2 in Memphis, Tenn. “And the new songs, they’re deeper. They’ve got a lot of feeling to them.”

And, he adds, “I’ll have about twice as much time” to make the new album — 30 days instead of the 12 he had to record “Torch.”

Allman is playing several of the new songs in his shows, some of which — such as “Salvation” — were inspired by his decision to get sober in 2008. But while it took him a long time to return to the studio, Allman is happy with the way things have gone since the release of “Torch” release.

“I think things are constantly growing,” he says. “The (attendance) numbers are up, and the word keeps spreading. It really is all about the touring; the records are great, but the touring and going and playing for people is where it’s at.

“This band was definitely in its infancy when we were recording ‘Torch.’ There were some cool moments on that (album), but I know we’re capable of so much more in the studio now. I can’t wait to get in there.”

Devon Allman’s Honeytribe and Monkey Grinder perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 13) at Callahan’s, 2105 South Blvd., Auburn Hills. Tickets are $10. Call (248) 858-9508 or visit www.atcallahans.com.
