Though its fans might wish that it’s not so, the three members of Saffire - The Uppity Blues Women are indeed calling it quits as a band after 25 years, seven albums — including the new “Havin’ the Last Word” — and more shows than any of them care to count.

“Everything’s still good,” singer-guitarist Gayle Adegbalola assures us. “It’s just that it’s been 25 years. All three of us have been doing individual projects, but we’ve always placed Saffire first. You give your good songs to Saffire. And when a Saffire date comes along, everything is planned around that.

“I don’t think you can do both really well, and none of us are getting younger, so it’s time to work on the other (solo) stuff. It’s bittersweet, but it’s good to go out on top.”

Adegbalola, 65, is working on a second solo album, which will feature more slide guitar work. She’ll also be continuing her work as a gay rights activist, while bandmates Ann Rabson and Andra Faye are planning their own projects. A Saffire documentary, “Hot Flash,” was released in July.

As to whether this is goodbye for good, Adegbalola only says, “I never say never to anything. If some big money jumps up or a special tour jumps up or a special TV show jumps up, I’m sure all of us would want to do it again.

“But there’s truly no plan of Saffire ever touring like this again. We really are calling it quits.”
