Hawthorne Heights Ready To Get "Skeleton" Out Of The Closet

Hawthorne Heights’ fourth album, “Skeleton,” won’t be out until some time in early 2010. But frontman JT Woodruff says recording is done and the modern rock quartet from Dayton, Ohio, plans to give fans a sample of the new material during its tour, which begins next week.

“We’re going to play just a couple of new things to let everybody know what they sound like, just a general taste of what they can expect,” says Woodruff, 31. “We’re not trying to give too much of it away, but we haven’t been on tour for a year, so we wanted to do something small and fun and just kind of hang out with everybody.”

Woodruff says Hawthorne Heights’ absences has allowed the band to do “a lot of writing” before hitting the studio this summer with producer Howard Benson. It marked the first time the group worked in Los Angeles, which proved to be a revelation.

“We did one record in Chicago, one in New Jersey, one in northern California ... but nothing I guess as industry-related as you get right in Los Angeles and Hollywood,” Woodruff says. “When we did our pre-production, Kiss was right next door to us. And then in the studio next to us they were making a Jerry Lee Lewis record and Slash was playing solos on it, and the dudes from Creed were recording there, too.

“So that was cool. We felt like we got to see a little bit of rock ’n’ roll history. That’s something you’re only going to get in L.A. That’s not gonna happen in Ohio, you know?”

Hawthorne Heights, Just Surrender, Punchline, Monty Are and Nightbeast perform at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 4) in the Pike Room at the Crofoot, 1 S. Saginaw St., Pontiac. Tickets are $13.50. Call (248) 858-9333 or visit www.thecrofoot.com.
