Interview:
The Upbeat:: Class Three Overbite
Formed: 2007 in Ferndale
Sound: Sophisticated, melodic rock
Members: Bradley Jendza — vocals (Ferndale); Michael — Heights); Rick Browarski — guitar (Ferndale); John Burns — bass (Royal Oak); Karl Crafton — drums (Mount Clemens)
Influences: Queen, The Beatles, Jellyfish, the Sweet, Kiss
Day Jobs: Jendza is an art director at Campbell-Ewald Advertising. Elgert is a librarian at the Sterling Heights Public Library. Browarski is a business line manager for Infineon Technologies. Burns works in quality control at Ford Motor Company, and Crafton runs a T-shirt shop in Mount Clemens.
Starting Out: Jendza and Elgert knew each other through previous bands and began working together after Jendza showed Elgert one of his songs at a holiday party. “I showed (Elgert) the chords and he said we should demo it and see what it sounds like,” Jendza recalls. “We arranged it and we actually recorded it, just kind of as a goof. Then it turned into a real song and we kept building from there.”
Studio Rats: Class Three Overbite has an extensive live résumé, but Jendza says the group’s real love is songwriting and recording. “Our songs are fun to do live but really hard with the layered harmonies and everything,” he explains. “We have more fun recording and writing, doing that kind of thing in the studio. We would love to sell one of our songs ... and have it in a movie or video game or WB teen drama or something. And then if it turned into something where we could tour and survive, it would be fun.”
