Neon Trees enjoying the "Prom" afterparty

Neon Trees went to the “Prom” this spring.

Two songs from the Utah modern rock quartet’s 2010 debut album “Habits” — the singles “Your Surrender” and “1983” — appear on the soundtrack to the Walt Disney dramedy “Prom,” which has given the group a bit of extra push 14 months after the album’s release.

“We haven’t said ‘yes’ to everything that comes our way,” says frontman Tyler Glenn, “but I think (‘Prom’ is) something we felt behind. We’re a very youth-oriented band, and I think it will help us reach more of a youth-oriented audience, so we went with it.”

After seeing the film, Glenn feels the film is “a little bit out of our demographic,” but he feels that it will make inroads for Neon Trees’ music with that younger fan base. And it underscores the transition the band has made from the alternative rock market — with its first single, “Animal” — and toward a broader pop following.

“It’s almost a tangible thing in the air when you’ve got a pop audience,” Glenn acknowledges. “I think it felt right, and it’s never felt rushed or unnatural or awkward. We tend to just do what we do regardless of who we’re playing for. I just love being able to play for anyone that cares enough to listen to us or see us play live, really. So it’s been good.”

Neon Trees, Eastern Conference Champions and the Limousines perform Wednesday, May 25, at St. Andrews Hall, 431 E. Congress St., Detroit. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $16 with a $40 four-pack. Call 313-961-6358 or visit www.livenation.com.
