Brandi Carlile recently released a new album, a self-descriptive concert set called “Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony.” But she’s most excited about finally getting to road test some material off her upcoming fourth studio album, including new songs such as “That Wasn’t Me” and “Rattled.”

“Absolutely, I’ll play them a lot on the road. I have no self control!” the Washington state-born singer-songwriter says with a laugh.

She adds that, “What’s cool about these is they aren’t road-tested, so they’re full of a lot of angst and a lot of questioning, uncertainty, which I think any band needs at some point. Your brain won’t go into auto-pilot mode because you’re not really sure or too locked into them yet.”

Carlile, 29, recorded the as-yet-untitled album during March and early April in a barn studio in Bear Creek, Wash., with producer Trina Shoemaker (Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age). Unlike the stately “Live at Benaroya Hall,” Carlile says the new set “sounds like a band that’s absolutely pent up and totally overflowing with rock ’n’ roll and couldn’t wait to get in the studio and do these songs. It’s really energetic.”

Besides the new live and studio albums, Carlile recently recorded backing vocals for Indigo Girl Amy Ray’s next solo album, and she’s been working on music for a Warner Bros. film that she can’t yet reveal.
