The members of Committed say much has changed in their lives since the sextet from Huntsville, Ala., won the second season of NBC's "The Sing-Off."

"Before 'The Sing-Off' we were just normal people," says the group's Therry Thomas, "just into singing around, singing in choirs and stuff like that. But since the show people recognize us randomly in Walmart and the airport. People ask for autographs."

Groupmate DJ Baptiste, 23, adds that, "It's crazy to be looked at like that now.”

“To me, I'm the same person I was before 'The Sing-Off'; all we did was go sing on a TV show, and now all of a sudden people are going crazy and crying when they come to see us. That love and support from fans is probably the most surprising thing to me."

Committed is preparing for the August release of its self-titled debut album, which features collaborations with members of Take 6 and covers of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," Maxwell's "Pretty Wings," Earth, Wind & Fire's "September" and "a new spin" on Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama." But the album also includes plenty of spiritual fare as well — including the Thomas-written "Break Free" — and both Committed men promise that "Committed" stays true to the group's faith-based roots.

"We wanted to be true to who we are," says Thomas, 24. "We're singers who love a capella music and singers who happen to be Christian. We wanted to have an album with real-life music. Christians go through breakups and love and all that stuff.

"So we just wanted it to be real and not offend anybody. It hasn't been that much of a struggle for us. We're pretty strong in what we believe."

Committed performs Tuesday, June 21, at the Magic Stick, 4120 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. Call 313-833-9700 or visit www.majesticdetroit.com.
