Australian electronic rock troupe Cut Copy's 10th anniversary snuck up on Dan Whitford and his three bandmates.



"It's a little bit strange, people talking about 10 years of Cut Copy being around," says Whitford, 31. "I don't think there was any sort of start point for us, apart from maybe the first record ('Bright Like Neon Love') coming out (in 2005). That felt like the real starting point of the band; before that it was something we did for fun, as a hobby or side project from studying design at school.



"So I guess it's 10 years since I started getting enthused about music, which seems like a long time. But I don't think we got serious about it till a bit more recently. It really feels like only five or six years for us."



Whitford and his mates have managed to cover a lot of ground since then — three albums, three EPs and DJ compilations. Its latest full-length — "Zonoscope," which came out in February — was crafted at the group's warehouse rehearsal space in Melbourne, which set it apart from its predecessors.



"We had a view to experiment more than we had on previous records," Whitford recalls, "Because it was our own space, we could go as long as we wanted and experiment as much as we wanted and work on all the ideas we had rather than feeling rushed because the studio was booked by someone else. It was a good way to work. "
