It’s been eight years since Steely Dan’s last album, “Everything Must Go.” And co-founder Donald Fagen doesn’t sound like he and partner Walter Becker are in any hurry to end the wait.



“Walter and I throw some ideas around once in a while, but there’s nothing definite yet,” says Fagen, 63. “It comes in its own time.”



And even though the duo takes Steely Dan out on the road most years, Fagen, for one, is more focused on his own work — a solo album (his first since 2006) that in 2010 he expected to be out this year.



Now it, like Steely Dan albums, will come when it comes.



“It hasn’t really made itself totally clear what it’s going to be yet, but I have a good feeling about it,” Fagen says. “What I’ve got so far has a bit of James Brown to it. That’s what it sounds like to me so far.



“The three (solo) albums I’ve done previously were sort of a trilogy. I’m through with that now, so I can concentrate more on individual songs and make them good. It’s a little different, but I’m happy with it so far.”
