Taking Back Sunday frontman Adam Lazzara says there’s a decidedly different feeling in the reunited original recording lineup of the band than there was a decade or so ago.

“Everybody’s kind of grown up a lot,” explains Lazzara, 29. “I think that now compared to back then, we’re all really comfortable with our abilities and also with leaning on one another in the songwriting and stuff like that. There’s a lot more trust and everybody’s working more as a unit, whereas in the past I wouldn’t ever really lean on any of the other guys for help with anything.

“On this record we were all kind of leaning on one another, and that’s really important if you’re working with five people.”

“Taking Back Sunday” is the first album to feature Lazzara, guitarist Eddie Reyes and drummer Mark O’Connell with guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper — the roster that recorded TBS’ 2002 debut “Tell All Your Friends.” The reunion, which began during early 2010, has gone so smoothly that the quintet is already eyeballing its next album, even if its latest has been out less than a month.

“We’re constantly writing with one another,” Lazzara says. “On (tour) the whole time we’ll be working on new material, too. This is where everybody’s head is at; it’s not like, ‘Oh, we’re getting back together and doing a reunion record.’ It’s not anything like that. We’re definitely moving forward and into the future.”

Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, Colour Revolt and the New Regime perform Tuesday and Wednesday, July 26-27, at Saint Andrews Hall, 431 E. Congress St., Detroit. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $27.50; Tuesday’s show is sold out. Call 313-961-8137 or visit www.livenation.com.
