With its fourth studio album, “The Truth Is...,” just out last month, Canadian hard rock troupe Theory of a Deadman views consider its current run on the Carnival of Madness Tour as a chance to make a few new friends.

“It makes sense for us to go on a package like this,” says frontman Tyler Connolly, nothing that tour mates Altered Bridge, Blackstone Cherry, Adelitas Way and Emphatic “aren’t necessarily sonically like us, but they have radio support, so it’s almost like being on a radio tour.

“The good thing is there are going to be a lot of fans coming that aren’t necessarily Theory fans or Alter Bridge fans, just people who listen to their local radio station. So it’s a good opportunity for us to win over new fans. We’re always looking to do that.”

Connolly does, meanwhile, acknowledge that “The Truth Is...” — which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 last month — is a surly album. Many of its songs were inspired by his 2010 divorce, ranging from the tongue-in-cheek title track to more heartfelt songs such as “Easy to Love You” and “Hurricane.”

“A lot of it stems from the relationship ending,” acknowledges Connolly, 35, who had moved to Los Angeles from the band’s home base of Vancouver. “Ending not to my liking, me having to deal with the consequences, continuing life in a strange city, all alone....

“It’s all true, which is a good thing; it would be funky if people were like, ‘Why does the album sound like this?’ and I’d be going, ‘I dunno...’ “

The Carnival of Madness Tour plays Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318 W. Fourth St. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $32. Call 248-399-2980 or visit www.royaloakmusictheatre.com.
