Hymn For Her hails from Philadelphia, but the duo of Lucy Tight and Wayne Waxing — which lives, records and travels in a 1961 Airstream camper — considers Detroit something of a second home.

The couple, which has a four-year-old daughter, lived in Detroit during 2010, when it was touring with the Americana group String of Ponies. “We were working on making an album with them, so it made sense to be there,” says Tight, who sings and plays three-string cigar box guitar while Waxing also sings and plays a variety of instruments. “We were about a mile from the downtown YMCA and near the Avalon bakery.

“We both love Detroit. There’s so much great art and music and theater going on there. We have a lot of friends there. I remember when we first came, you always hear, ‘Oh, be careful in Detroit,’ but we’ve loved it ever since we came here the first time.”

Hymn For Her’s residency in the city also introduced them to producer Jim Diamond, who wound up mixing their eclectic debut album “Lucy & Wayne and the Amairican [cq] Stream” after the duo recorded it in their Airstream.

“We met Jim Diamond at a gig ... and he said, ‘If you ever want to do an album or something, call me,” Tight recalls. “So when we were about to mix our record, we thought of a lot of different people, but we liked his sound and we liked working with him. He’s a really hard worker, one of those people who just gets it done, which is really great. So we thought of Jim and gave him a call.”
