Collective Soul released its last album in 2009, the same year the group was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Bassist Will Turpin says he’s confident the group will make another one at some point. “We still have a lot of creativity in us,” he says — but he won’t hazard a guess as to when it will come.

“I think we’ve reached that point in our career where we know we can always play live, play shows, whenever we want,” says Turpin, 40. “We all have to sit down and make a decision to spent four to six months working on another record, and until we sit down and decide we’re gonna do it, we can’t tell anybody for sure that we are.

“But I think we’ll do more. We have some songs that we’ve been hashing out, but right now everyone’s been spending a lot of time on some projects outside of Collective Soul.”

For Turpin that’s “The Light House,” his just-released solo album that he describes as “funky pop, a little rock” on which he plays most of the instruments — including piano, the first one he learned.

“I’ve always been writing songs that weren’t necessarily Collective Soul tunes,” Turpin says. “It’s just something I’ve been wanting to get out, and it’s been fun to work on them. Collective Soul took almost all of our time for the longest period, so it’s nice to get a chance to do this, and it’s something I’m really proud is out there now.”

Collective Soul and House Phone perform at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at SoundBoard in the Motor City Casino and Hotel, 2901 Grand River Blvd., Detroit. Tickets are $43 and $39. Call (313) 237-7711 or visit www.motorcitycasino.com.
