With their debut album out and a couple of hits — “My Girl” and “Mrs. Right” — on the charts, the four 14-year-olds who comprise the group Mindless Behavior are learning a bit more about the business they’ve gotten themselves into.

“When I first joined the group I didn’t know how much work we had to do,” notes Princeton, who was tapped along with Roc Royal by managers Keisha Gamble and Walter Milsap in 2008, subsequently joined by Ray Ray and Prodigy (their real names are not public knowledge) and going through a couple years of “boot camp” before they began to perform in public.

“For me, being a kid at home watching music videos, I thought it was just fun and games, and in one minute you’re doing a music video and winning awards. Now I realize that it’s a lot of work, but it pays off.”

The songs on Mindless Behavior’s debut album, “#1 Girl,” are clean and positive-minded — and abundantly self-referential. “My Girl,” for instance, is “about texting a girl and she texts us 24-7,” says Ray Ray, while “Mrs. Right” is, of course, how these musical youth are “trying to find our Mrs. Right,” Prodigy says. And he adds that the next single, “Girls Talkin’ ’Bout,” is “just about all the girls talking about us, saying how mindless we are.”

And “mindless” is not a negative term, either.

“Mindless is just being confident, not caring what anybody thinks about you and just being yourself,” Prodigy explains. Adds Ray Ray, “We were all confident before the group, and we’re even more confident now.”

The Scream Tour: Next Generation with Mindless Behavior, Diggy, Jacob Latimore, Hamilton Park and OMG Girls, takes place at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Fox Theatre, 2211 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Tickets are $42.50. Call 313-471-6611 or visit www.olympiaentertainment.com
