With the 10th anniversary of its first album looming in 2012, Montreal punk rockers Simple Plan are starting to feel a bit like elder statesmen in their chosen genre.

"It's funny, because I feel like we're just getting started in some ways," says drummer Chuck Comeau. "But when I look back at the dates and realize we've been together with the same band, the same lineup, for 12 years now, so there's obviously some history. There's definitely a long story between us and our fans.

"It's definitely weird, because I always feel like I'm the youngest band out there and we're the youngest guys in the room. But I'm realizing that now there's a new generation coming up. And that's exciting."

Simple Plan is hardly sitting on its laurels, which includes a four Top 10 albums in Canada, two of which went platinum or better in the U.S., and hits such as "Addicted," "Perfect" and "Welcome to My Life." The group released its fourth album, "Get Your Heart On!," in June, and Comeau, 32, says the band has been heartened by the reception.

"We feel like it's totally relevant, and people like it," he notes. "It's not like when you see an old band and when they play a new song people go and grab a beer. It feels like when we're playing a new song it's people's favorite moment and they're singing along and just as into it as the older stuff.

"I think that's really exciting. We're just really happy to still be around and still be making music. It's what we hoped for, but you never know."

Simple Plan, Forever The Sickest Kids, The Cab and Mariana's Tench perform Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Clutch Cargo's, 65 E. Huron St., Pontiac. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, $23 at the door. Call 248-333-2362 or visit www.clutchcargos.com.
