Bassnectar had a fine time earlier this year when he played one of his typically full-out shows at the Fillmore Detroit. But for "the grand finale" of his fall tour -- and his 2011 live itinerary -- the electronic music artists is happy to be moving to Plymouth's Compuware Arena.

"We knew we wanted to come back to Detroit with a bang and realized the Fillmore might not be able to hold the amount of people we wanted to include," explains Lorin Ashton, 33, a California native who's been working under the Bassnectar moniker for more than a decade. "The first time I was ever in Michigan was in Kalamazoo, so we wanted to make this more regional and have it feel like proper family gathering.

"And it's kind of cool, for me, to have such a progression through a city and be at this point now where it really is on such a larger scale than I ever imagined -- and still growing. It came from a lot of work, but the growth has been slow enough that where we are now is where it should be."

Bassnectar will certainly be showcasing material from his latest album, "Divergent Spectrum," which came out in August. Ashton says he "never really intended for it to be an album, just songs I was creating to play at live shows and creating with a large group experience in mind." But the sheer volume of material inspired him to create an actual release.

"It just kept unfolding while I was on the road, rehashing old material and remixing it into new sounds, and working on brand new content at the same time," Ashton explains. "Now I get to enjoy playing it and reinventing it at all these shows on the tour -- and probably for the rest of my life, which is more than I ever expected."

Bassnectar and Big Gigantic perform Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Compuware Arena, 14900 Beck Road, Plymouth. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $32 in advance, $35 day of show. Call 877-271-1280 or visit www.compuwarearena.com.
