Don't assume Mike Hranica is a big horror film fan just because his band, The Devil Wears Prada, released a "Zombie EP" last year and followed with its own video game, "Zombie Slay," that uses songs from the EP as its soundtrack.

"People always say to me, 'Oh, you're a big horror buff?' and I'm like, 'No, but I like zombies," Hranica, 22, explains. "It's just one of those things. 'Zombieland' had just came out. I was reading 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies'...

"I'm not even a zombie film buff, but I love zombies. I think a lot of people can relate to that. So getting to write songs about it was absolutely perfect, and then, since we're all big (video) gamers, 'Zombie Slay' was a really fun project for our band at that point in our career."

The Christian metal band from Dayton has moved on to a new point, too. It released its fourth album, "Dead Throne," in September, hitting No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and topping the Independent and Christian charts. And while Hranica says that "it's nerve-wracking to put out new records," it's pleased with how "Dead Throne" has been received.

"As the band puts out more records, expectations always go up," Hranica says. "You can never be too sure what the reaction is going to be, especially in such a convoluted, oversaturated music industry now.

"But we're stoked. It's awesome that the fans appreciate it and thoroughly, sincerely enjoy it. It's not like we write these songs going, 'Oh, what to people want to hear?' or 'What's going to sell the most?,' but it's always nice when they like it."

The Devil Wears Prada, Whitechapel, Enter Shikari and For Today perform Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318 W. Fourth St. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20. Call 248-399-2980 or visit www.royaloakmusictheatre.com.
