RZA, Wu-Tang Clan’s nominal leader, has a mantra when he talks about the rap all-star collective: “The saga continues.”

It’s been like that since the troupe’s platinum debut album, “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers),” in 1993. Wu-Tang works together when time permits amidst solo careers and affiliate spin-offs. So far that’s resulted in five group albums, though the prolific lineup of projects by the other group members — Method Man, Ghostface Killa, Raekwon, GZA, U-God, Inspectah Deck and Masta Killa — count as Wu-Tang activity, too.

“We continue to just live out this hip-hop legacy and take our artistic challenges to other mediums — TV, film, music,” explains RZA (real name Robert Diggs), 42. “I won’t be surprised if one day we see one of the Wu-Tang members on Broadway — not me, but one of the guys.

“It’s all part of the Wu-Tang. And when we do come together, rare as that is, it’s that much stronger because of it.”

RZA says he “won’t even talk” about the group’s next album, though a follow-up to 2007’s “8 Diagrams” is reportedly planned for 2012. “Me and Ghostface talk about it a lot,” he says. “The other members are talking about it. We’ll see what life brings — let’s put it that way.

“To have an official Wu-Tang Clan album with everybody coming together, it’s never an easy task. It’s like an independent film or something, a lot of pieces that have to be put together. But I’m always up for that challenge, so I think it’ll happen again — someday.”

Wu-Tang Clan, Bronze, Nazareth, Definition and Knewport perform Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318 W. Fourth St. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35. Call 248-399-2980 or visit www.royaloakmusictheatre.com.
