Shelby Lynne says the easy part about getting ready for a solo tour is that “there’s not really any preparing.”

“You just do it,” says the singer, songwriter and older sister of Allison Moorer, who’s hitting the road alone to continue promoting her deeply personal 2011 release “Revelation Road.” You just load up your guitars and hit the road. I can just walk out on stage, pick up (a guitar) and pretend I’m in my living room. I have a list — not necessarily in order. I try to do the new songs first and then pick up and do other things that are suitable to the room. It’s really so easy.”

And, Lynne adds, nobody should bother calling out for favorites.

“I don’t go for that,” she explains. “It’s my job to do the entertaining. I don’t really take requests. People do call out for things on occasion, but that quickly fades into the abyss of silence.”

Lynne, 43, says she’s still “a little” surprised by the autobiographical course the “Revelation Road” songs took, particularly given a hardscrabble life that included her parents’ murder-suicide when she was 17. But she has no regrets over putting them out for public consumption.

“I don’t make plans with the music,” she explains. “It’s just kind of, ‘Oh, OK, if that’s where you want to go, then I’ll go with you.’ I just aim to write as good as I can and get better every time I do it, and I feel like emotional content helps make for great material. I still believe this is some of the best work I’ve ever done.”

Shelby Lynne performs at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the Ark, 316 S. Main St., Ann Arbor. Tickets are $25. Call 734-761-1451 or visit www.theark.org.
