The modern rock troupe Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.) is in the midst of its first tour as a headliner, and for Rochester-based frontman Craig Owens, it’s a bit of a victory lap, too.

“I think it took off,” says Owens, 27, who formed D.R.U.G.S. after parting ways with Chiodos in 2009. “I think we’re doing great. I’m glad it’s organically growing. I think if you blow up too fast then you fall just as fast. We needed to grow, so I’m glad it wasn’t too much too quick for us.”

D.R.U.G.S.’ self-titled debut album came out a year ago, hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart on No. 29 on the Billboard 200. The group also played on last year’s Alternative Press Tour, Vans Warped Tour and World War III tour. The group is “still figuring out” plans to make its second album, but Owens — who will also be appearing in the upcoming film “K-11” — feels like there’s still life left in the debut album.

“We still believe in the record we have,” Owens says, “so we’re going to continue to push it until we have everything worked out for the next one. There’s a few steps that need to be taken in order to that.

“But in the meantime we’re looking forward to seeing how many kids come out to our show and have really attached themselves to this record. It’s been about a year for them to really soak it in, and we can tell that the more time people spend with it, the more into it they are. So these should be great shows for us.”

D.R.U.G.S., Hit The Lights, Like Moths to Flames and Sparks The Rescue perform Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Crofoot Ballroom, 1 S. Saginaw St., Pontiac. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 day of show. Call (248) 858-9333 or visit www.thecrofoot.com.
