Bassnectar says he has "a bad habit of working all the time." Fortunately, he has a dedicated base of fans that don't mind that at all.

The prolific DJ, producer and remixer has already released an album, "Vava Voom," this year and recently came out with an EP entitled "Freestyle." He's also issued at least three mixtapes, with various bits of musical ephemera that can be found floating around the Internet.

"I probably have about 100 unfinished songs," the California-born Bassnectar (real name Lorin Ashton), 34, acknowledges. "I just keep producing, and one of my favorite ways of being social with my friends, who are mostly producers too, is geeking out and making songs together.

"So I just keep making too many songs and keep remixing old song, and they stack up."

But like most pack rats -- physical or virtual -- Bassnectar has plans to clear the clutter at some point. It's just a matter of how industrious he feels.

"I really want to go back and remaster some of the old stuff," he says. "I've been on tour pretty solidly since March and I close up in December. Then I'm going to take some time off. I've never taken more than a week off in over a decade, but this time I'm going to take several months off, (during) some of which I hope I won't even have my phone on me.

"Then I definitely want to get back into a creative zone. California in the winter is super magical for me. I just want to drink a lot of tea and get into a creative mode. I can't wait for that."

Bassnectar, Secrets, Gramatik, Dave Nada and Gladkill perform Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 7-8, at the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward Ave. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $45-$65. Call 313-961-5450 or visit www.livenation.com.
