When Parquet Courts frontman Andrew Savage says his group's trajectory is "not exactly like I envisioned it," he's not exactly complaining.

The Brooklyn indie-rock quartet has become something of a hipster darling with its second album, "Light Up Gold," which came out in January. "People seem to be really into the record and seem to be connecting with it," says Savage, 27. "That makes me happy. It's an exciting thing to experience when you're playing for other people and being on tour like this and being able to hear what people think about the record and have them come up and say how much it means to them.

"I guess I just never thought this many people would be coming out to the shows and stuff. And just to be able to tour as much as we have...I'd file all that under a nice surprise."

Parquet Courts won't make fans wait too long for more music, either. Savage says the group has already recorded an EP and another album, though, he adds, "those won't be out for awhile" as the group continues to push "Light Up Gold."

"The news songs kind of grab equal parts from our first two records," Savage reports, "so the true Parquet Courts fans will recognize the stuff and be into. But then there's some new songs that are a little more aggressive, and some that I hesitate to say are ballads, but thrower stuff that's gonna be thrown in there, too.

"It's mostly familiar, but there's some new in there too, I hope. We're playing some of them live now. When I feel people getting excited about our songs, it just makes me want to write more."

Parquet Courts, Feelings and Portomartyr perform Tuesday, June 25, at the Magic Stick, 4120 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 day of show. Call 313-833-9700 or visit www.majesticdetroit.com.
