Entering his 40s was a revelation for Jason Reece of ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead.

"I never thought this band would be around when I was this old," Reece, who's now 41, says of the Austin, Texas-based modern rock troupe that's been going, to consistent critical acclaim, since 1994. "I didn't know what to think, I guess. But I'm glad we have a legacy and we have been playing now for years and haven't given up.

"And if you were coming to see us, you wouldn't think we were a bunch of 40-year-olds. Maybe a bunch of 38-year-olds -- YOUNG 38-year-olds," Reece adds with a laugh.

Trail of Dead is hardly slowing down in its members "old age," either. The group's eighth album, "Lost Songs," came out October, and this fall it plans to release a five-song EP, "Tao of the Dead Part III," that it's funding through a PledgeMusic campaign. The group is also reissuing its first five albums on high-grade vinyl, touch Reece says the quartet is mindful of how much product it's putting out at any given time.

"We're definitely touring as if ('Lost Songs') is still new -- and it is really new to us," Reece explains. "It definitely seems that in this day and age you have to keep busy, but you don't want to oversaturate people with your music. I think by the time (the EP) is released it'll be almost a year away from when we released 'Lost Songs,' so if we're doing a new thing every year I think that's pretty cool."
