Reaching 30 years as a band is no small feat. But Roger "Buzz" Osborne of the Seattle heavy rock troupe the Melvins claims he's "not super-concerned about it."

"I really don't think along those lines," says Osborne, 49, whose group -- formed in Montesano, Wash. -- has been cited as an influence by bands such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, Tool, Mastodon and many others. "It feels good. I'd imagine it's rare that people get to the point we have. It's fortunate.

"But honestly, I was glad when we made it to 10 years. That seemed enormous. So 30 years, it's great. I hope we make it to 50, honestly. I love what I'm doing."

Osborne and the Melvins have been doing plenty of it recently. Earlier this year the group released a covers album called "Everybody Love Sausages," while the upcoming "Tres Cabrones" reunites the 1983-84 Melvins lineup of Osborne, bassist Dale Crover and drummer Mike Dillard. "We did a live show awhile ago where the Melvins 1983 opened up for the Melvins, which was a lot of fun and I figured we should write some new songs for that (1983) band," Osborne recalls. And that kind of thinking is what he feels has kept the band going for three decades.

"You just have to be realistic and play the hand that God dealt you -- or the gods. However many gods are out there, I have no idea," Osborne says. "If there's one thing I've learned in 30 years, if some (jerk) is standing in your way, all you have to go is wait and they'll be gone.

"We've outlived a lot of (jerks)."
