Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros took three years between its first and second albums and just 14 months between last year's "Here" and this year's self-titled effort.

And singer Jade Castrinos expects that's a harbinger of things to come for the loose-limbed folk-rock troupe from California

"Oh yeah, we're already talking about what we're going to do next," says Castrinos, 27. "A lot of writing has been taking place the last few years, and here's been more songs than we know what to do with or where to put them.

"We've just been touring so much since 2009, and I think that always breeds songs. We'll get on the bus after a show and someone will be playing the guitar and I'll start singing or Alex (Ebert) will start singing and that gives birth to a song. It's very conducive to creativity."

And for Castrinos, the best part about the Magnetic Zeros' recent prolificity has been exponentially increasing the group's repertoire.

"That's been really nice, and it's kind of taken us by surprise," she says. "We don't really have a set list, but our techs will write a list of every song we have for us. There was a time where we only had eight songs to play, and now there's like three pages of songs, which is great.

"Sometimes," she adds, "they'll prank us. The once did a track listing for Guns N' Roses, just to see if we noticed. So someday we'll play 'Paradise City' -- but not quite yet."

The Mo Pop Festival, featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Andrew Bird, Old Crow Medicine Show, Manchester Orchestra, Jamaican Queens and more, takes place Saturday, Aug. 17, at Freedom Hill Amphitheatre and Park, 14900 Metropolitan Parkway, Sterling Heights. Gates open at 10 a.m. Call 568-268-9700 or visit ww.freedomhill.net.
