Fans have spent more than two years listening to the Eli Young Band's "Life at Best" -- and enjoying it to the tune of a No. 6 debut on the Billboard 200, a No. 3 peak on the Country Albums chart and a pair of No. 1 Country singles, "Crazy Girl" and "Even If It Breaks Your Heart."

Now they won't have long to wait for more new music -- probably the first quarter of next year, according to frontman Mike Eli, who acknowledges that expectations will be high.

"You always feel that pressure, but I think that with this one especially, because we had some really great success, there's a little bit more," says Eli, 32, who co-founded the group with guitarist James Young while the two were roommates at the University of North Texas. "But it's a good kind of pressure, I think. It keeps us on our toes."

The Eli Young Band has offered a preview of what's to come via its latest single, "Drunk Last Night," which is currently climbing the charts and, according to Eli, proving to be popular with concert crowds.

"Every time you play news songs in your live show, it's always exciting 'cause it's all new," he says. "Every record we make, it feels like we're trying some new things and going in a certain direction that you just hope everyone loves as much as you do.

"I remember when the label sent it to me, I played it to my wife and said, 'What do you think of this song?' She loved it -- so I told her I would blame her if it doesn't do well."

The Eli Young Band and Eric Pasley perform at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at SoundBoard in the Motor City Casino Hotel, 2901 Grand River Ave., Detroit. Tickets are $38-$38. Call (866) 782-0622 or visit www.motorcitycasino.com.
