Godsmack's ready to roar on Uproar tour

The members of Godsmack are hoping to "get out there and do as much damage as we can" on this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival tour, which kicks off this weekend at the DTE Energy Music Theatre.

And the heavy rocking Boston quartet has been waiting a long time to do that.

Godsmack took a hiatus after touring to support its 2010 album "Oracle," and frontman Sully Erna says returning to active duty -- with the newly released "1000hp" album -- was not necessarily certain. "It was scary for sure," says Erna, 46. "People were having doubts about whether the band was going to continue. It's one of those crossroads you hit in your life. the band was going through some obstacles we had to jump through; I just think we were tired, man. We were exhausted from all the years of touring and just needed a break, that's all."

But upon reconnecting, Erna adds, "we really missed each other. the love was still there, man. the brotherhood is stronger now than it's ever been. I'm really proud to say we've learned so much and we've gotten over those hills and there won't be any more of that."

The Uproar tour, then, gives Erna and company a chance to put Godsmack's rejuvenated solidarity on display, and he promises nothing less than "a big, fat, old school rock show."

"We're really gearing up," Erna says. "We have a lot of energy and we're really excited to hit the road again, so I think we're just gonna get up there and do what we do and try to deliver a really big, great, entertaining show and hopefully exhaust people and then let them get a good night's sleep."
