Having two bands is even more fun for Bleachers' Jack Antonoff

With a band as successful as the platinum, Grammy Award-winning fun., Jack Antonoff wouldn't seem to need much more in his musical life.

But the guitarist has launched yet another group, Bleachers, whose debut album, "Strange Desire," came out in July after an initial single, "I Wanna Get Better," that hit No. 1 on Billboard's Alternative Rock Songs chart.

"It came really organically," says Antonoff, 30, who's dating "Girls" creator and star Lena Dunham. "I always write. I write every day, but there's a difference between writing and making an album. And at one point the songs I was writing started to shape into an album, and I realized that I wanted this to exist as its own kind of thing. I was working on it in hotel rooms and on buses and planes, and I was just very compelled to make this album.

"And it was really cool because it was very much an un-ideal time to make it work, because we were so busy with fun. But you can never really choose the moment that you have. You just have to embrace it and go with it."

The juggle continues for Antonoff, too. He's assembled a touring Bleachers band after recording the album mostly by himself, but the group is on the road as fun. is working on a follow-up to its 2012 smash "Some Nights." But he's confident the two can co-exist "the same way they have" up to this point.

"Y'know, I made this album on tour (with fun.), so I can figure out a way where everything can keep existing all at the same time," he says. "I think my focus right now is just on this round of touring. I don't like to plan too far ahead because you know things can change anyway. I didn't think I'd be here a year ago, so I really just can't try to plan too much."
