Forever Festival adds second night to the party
How successful was the Forever Festival last year at the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre?
Enough that this year the electronic music show is expanding to two days and even more performers on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19-20.
"People were demanding, 'We want a second day. We want some more,' " notes Forever organizer Jason Wakefield, a Michigan native whose Digital Zombie marketing firm operates out of North Caroline. "We knew it would be back at that point."
The two-day format, Wakefield says, allows Forever to offer not only more artists but a broader range of EDM styles. Whereas Friday's show tilts in a more mainstream direction with headliners Krewella and Nervo, Saturday's "really gets into the nitty-gritty dirty" with cutting edge acts such as Adventure Club and Destroid.
"It really gives the fans a range they can listen to and kind of rage to," Wakefield says. "But it's not just two separate days. It's a festival; we want people to come enjoy the first day and then come back and get down the second day. We really want it to be an experience."
Wakefield says the Forever will also include "themed events" to enhance the experience, and while the overall concept seeks to combine the elements of the Earth to create "a fluid movement between fan and artist," the basic purpose of the festival is more straightforward.
"That's the bottom line, really," Wakefield affirms. "We love music. We love sharing music, and we want everyone to come out and have a good time and do something to close out the summer on a high note, sort of a one last hurrah before the season changes."
