Dashboard Confessional shifts back into gear
Dashboard Confessional isn't necessarily the most chaotic band in the world.
But group founder and leader Chris Carrabba is happy enough to be co-headlining this year's Taste of Chaos Tour package with good pals Taking Back Sunday.
"It's a great tour for personal reasons," Carrabba, 41, says by phone. "Some of my best friends are going out with us so it's kind of like having, like, an extended, long weekend with your buddies." But Carrabba and Dashboard is also pleased to be on the road again after a nearly five-year hiatus.
"We still feel this strange shock and surprise that the fans kind of brought us back and brought us back and such a high level," Carrabba says. "AFter all these years we've learned to make the most of every day and literally stop and appreciate the moment ever now and again. So it's going to be a great summer in that way, too."
In addition, Carrabba promises that the reactivated Dashboard will have some new music for fans, sooner rather than later. In fact, Carrabba posted an acoustic version of anew song, "May," last month and he says there's plenty more where that came from -- more than enough to make a follow-up to the group's last album, 2010's "After The Ending."
"After we did our co-headlining tour last year we came home and felt so inspired that I began actively writing and recording, thinking to myself, 'If I get lucky this will be an album, and if not this will be really fun,'" Carrabba says. "It IS an album now." There are no release plans yet, and Carrabba is circumspect about what the new material sounds like.
"I'm pleased that there's an evident, cohesive nature to this album," he notes. "It's not a rock opera or anything like that, but it's not just a thrown-together batch of songs. There's some loose narrative thread that's kind of floating through them and holding it together.
"I know a lot of people say 'Oh, this is the best thing I've ever done' all the time, right, just 'cause it's the next thing they've done. But I think this IS the best thing I've ever done."
