After releasing three albums during the past five years, British singer Birdy is starting to notice a bit of a change in her audience.

"It's very nice actually," Birdy, 20 (real name Jasmine Bogaerde) says by phone from New York. "The audience is a little bit older. It used to be kind of 12-year-old girls and, like, families. But now I realize they've actually grown up with me. It's a real mix with all kind of people -- girls, boys, kids, adults.

"I'm really enjoying it."

Birdy -- a prodigy since learning to play piano at the age of seven and began writing her own songs a year later -- has also enjoyed the process of maturing as an artist. She's listed as a co-producer on her third album "Beautiful Lies," which came out during March, which she says allowed the 14-song set to feel a little closer to home for her.

"It's about me kind of growing up and just learning how to express myself and everything," she explains. "I think for the first time I really felt like I could make decisions and was more sure of them and knew what I wanted. I never really had that before. And that all came from getting older and just knowing more than I have before."

Birdy's career has been something of a whirlwind to this point, of course. But getting to make music and travel the world have help to mitigate anything she might have missed in a more traditional childhood.

"I've missed a lot of birthdays and a lot of parties growing up, a lot of thing at school," she acknowledges. I've been at this from when I was 14, so I never really experienced school properly or going to college and things like that.

But I love what I do. It's just finding the balance. The main thing is that when I'm home I get to see my family a lot. I like to be with them. I just go straight to the countryside, and I love it. And that refreshes me to get back out here in the craziness."
